Abstract
Aspects of the subject technology relate to systems, methods, and computer-readable media for communicating between control equipment on the earth's surface and a subsurface drilling assembly to command downhole instrumentation functions. Specifically, continuous wave modulation can be used whereby the signals are created on the surface, by venting or bypassing a small percentage of the drilling fluid away from the borehole, and received and decoded by a downhole receiver.
