Abstract

A method and a server for developing an orthodontic treatment plan for a subject are provided. The method comprising training a machine-learning algorithm (MLA) by: acquiring a 3D scan of an arch form of a training subject, identifying a first boundary geometry of a root portion of a given tooth by determining a contour of each cross-section of the root portion in a first anatomical plane; identifying a second boundary geometry of the root portion by determining a contour of the root portion in a projection thereof to at least one of a second and a third anatomical planes; analyzing the combination of the first and second boundary geometries to identify and remove image artefacts, thereby generating a final boundary geometry of the root portion; segmenting, in the 3D scan, the root portion of the given tooth along the generated final boundary geometry for further use in training the MLA.
