Abstract
Some implementations disclosed herein reduce the chances of misuse and abuse of privileged postal mail processes by authenticating incoming mail that purports to be privileged mail actually as being privileged mail. Authenticating the postal mail may involve verifying the identity of a person sending a postal mail item and verifying that the person sending the postal mail item is certified, licensed, or otherwise titled as a professional of a type associated with privileged mail communications, e.g., an attorney, a public official, a physician, a psychologist, a psychologist, another licensed mental health therapist, etc. Authenticating the postal mail may involve confirming that the postal mail item sent by the privileged sender is the same as the postal mail item received by the confinement institution for the inmate.
