A swivel mechanism () for a seat assembly for use in an automotive vehicle has a base plate (), a swivel plate () pivotally coupled to the base plate and having an inner flange (), an outer ring (), and an outer flange (). The swivel mechanism also includes a retaining ring () having a ring portion () and fixedly coupled to the base plate with the inner flange () spaced axially between the ring portion () and the base plate (). The swivel mechanism also includes a bearing plate () comprising an upper channel () extending in the circumferential direction and a J-shaped channel ().
