Abstract
A computer-implemented method for forming a data structure is provided. The method includes generating, by a signer, a hash-based data authentication structure and selecting a first strategy. The first strategy includes a process for updating a first data structure. The method further includes forming, by the signer, the first data structure according to the first strategy. The first data structure includes one or more node hash values from the hash-based data authentication structure and is configured for verifying digital signatures relative to the hash-based data structure. The method further includes publishing the first data structure for access by a verifier configured to determine whether the first data structure is capable of verifying a digital signature and to either: use the first data structure to verify the digital signature or access a subsequently published second data structure that has been updated according to the first strategy to verify the digital signature.
