Abstract
A dual oil pump may perform centrifugal shifting using a centrifugal mass and spring system that converts centrifugal force into axial movement. The dual oil pump may have centrifugal rollers attached to a pump shaft via single-bar linkages. The centrifugal rollers may roll on a ramped surface of a carrier assembly. There is no relative rotation between the ramped surface and the centrifugal rollers about the center axis of the dual oil pump. As the angular speed of the pump shaft increases, the rollers roll radially outward along the ramps and oppose the spring force provided by a shaft-return spring, opening a dog clutch and disengaging a second mechanical pump. During re-engagement, the reverse happens such that the rollers travel radially inward along the ramps, closing the dog clutch and engaging the second mechanical pump.
