Abstract
An aircraft engine breather system includes a main conduit extending from a fluid-containing component of the aircraft engine to an evacuation location with a venturi between the component and the evacuation location. A suction conduit extending from a seal for the component or for an additional fluid-containing component to a throat of the venturi. A bypass conduit is fluidly coupled to the main conduit at an inlet disposed upstream of the venturi and an outlet disposed downstream of the venturi. The bypass conduit includes a valve having a closed configuration in which fluid flow through the bypass conduit is restricted and an open configuration in which fluid flow through the bypass conduit is allowed. The valve is movable from the closed to the open configuration when a pressure differential through the venturi is at a predetermined pressure differential indicative of the venturi approaching or reaching a choked condition.
