Abstract
A method for handwheel actuator bind and/or steering column detection includes receiving, in response to a signal indicating a change in position of power steering column, a handwheel torque signal from a sensor associated with a handwheel of a vehicle. The method also includes determining whether a torque value associated with the handwheel torque signal is greater than a threshold. The method also includes, in response to a determination that the torque value associated with the handwheel torque signal is greater than the threshold, initiating at least one countermeasure.
