Abstract

A super absorbent polymer capable of exhibiting improved bacterial growth-inhibitory property without lowering absorption performance, and a preparation method of the same. The super absorbent polymer is formed of an acrylic acid-based monomer containing acidic groups in which at least a portion of the acidic groups is neutralized; a polymerizable antimicrobial monomer represented by the disclosed Chemical Formula 1; and an internal cross-linking agent. The polymerizable antimicrobial monomer is included in the polymer in an amount of 0.2 to 20 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the acrylic acid-based monomer.
