Abstract

An assembly for use in knee surgery includes a patella sensor component having a backing plate and a sensor which generates a signal corresponding to compressive load applied to the backing plate, and shims providing a patella bearing surface for articulation against a surface on the femur, and positionable to define positions of the bearing surface relative to the patella. The assembly includes a clamp providing a reference surface for engaging the posterior surface of the patella and a support surface for supporting the head of a cutting instrument. Locator inserts are mounted on the clamp to define positions of the support surface relative to the reference surface, and define positions for the resection plane relative to posterior surface of the patella. The increment between the positions of the bearing surface relative to the patella matches the increment between the positions of the support surface relative to the reference surface.
