Abstract
An apparatus for generating a non-Gaussian quantum state includes a quantum-optical frequency-comb source that generates pairs of entangled spectral modes and a series of electrically controllable optical transformation modules that receive the entangled spectral modes from the frequency-comb source. Each of two or more of the optical transformation modules includes a spectral mode phase shifter that applies phase shifts to some of the spectral modes and a spectral mode mixer that couples some of the spectral modes. The apparatus also includes an output interface with photon-number-resolving (PNR) detectors that detect a first subset of the spectral modes. The output interface also includes an output port that outputs a second subset of the spectral modes that are not detected by the PNR detectors.
