Abstract

Waste collection and processing systems for use in low-gravity environments include a toilet having a bowl and a lid; a waste tank having an inlet and an outlet, with the bowl fluidly coupled to the inlet of the waste tank; a first valve arranged between the bowl and the waste tank and selectively operable to allow fluid connection between the bowl and the waste tank; a second valve arranged at a first outlet of the waste tank and selectively operable to allow for solid waste and liquid waste within the waste tank to be directed to a waste outlet; and a third valve arranged at a second outlet of the waste tank and selectively operable to allow for gases to be removed from the waste tank and directed to at least one of an occupied space, an external environment, or a waste reclamation system.
