Abstract

An aircraft propulsion system includes an engine, an electric machine, and a gearbox. The gearbox includes an output shaft, an electric machine drive gear, an engine drive gear, and a clutch assembly. The electric machine drive gear is mounted on the output shaft and driven by the electric machine. The engine drive gear is couplable with the output shaft by the clutch assembly. The clutch assembly includes a housing disk, a plurality of sliding pads, and a coupling piston disk. The housing disk is mounted on the output shaft and forms a plurality of apertures. The sliding pads are arranged circumferentially, each having a pad body portion extending through an aperture and including a first oblique side surface. The coupling piston disk includes a second oblique side surface radially coincident with the first and is movable to compress the sliding pads, coupling the output shaft with the engine drive gear.
