Abstract
A vehicle data system and method for determining transmission-suitable vehicle data from an environment-sensing sensor during vehicle operation are disclosed. An environment detection system evaluates input data from the environment-sensing sensor using a first trained artificial neural network to generate environment detection data for controlling vehicle operation. A monitor system evaluates the same input data using a second trained artificial neural network different from the first and generates reconstruction data. The monitor system establishes a deviation between the reconstruction data and the input data and, when the deviation exceeds a threshold value during vehicle operation, triggers transmission of the input data to a separate data unit for storage. The disclosed configuration enables identification and targeted collection of scenarios insufficiently represented during development or training of the environment detection system.
