Abstract

System and methods for providing a magnetic field. The methods comprise: supplying AC power to a four-phase coil assembly operable in a plurality of different operational modes; creating a rotating magnetic field by the four-phase coil assembly when operating in a first mode of the plurality of different operational modes; and creating a non-rotating magnetic field by the four-phase coil assembly when operating in a second mode of the plurality of different operational modes. The four-phase coil assembly comprise at least one first layer of four coils disposed on a magnetic core so as to be arranged symmetrically around a center of the four-phase coil assembly. Each of the four coils is associated with a respective one of four phases.
