Abstract
A torque limiting and tamper evident cap assembly includes a tip cap, an outer cover shrouding the tip cap, and an inner ring disposed around the tip cap. The tip cap and inner ring are configured to rotate as a single unit when a torque is applied to the tip cap. The inner ring and outer cover are configured to support torque in one direction, allowing a user to tighten a syringe onto the tip cap. The inner ring will support a maximum tightening torque before slipping or breaking. The inner ring and outer cover are also configured to slip if an unscrewing motion is applied. The inner ring acts as a tamper evident feature as it becomes free floating within the outer cover when the tip cap is removed for the first time, thereby preventing the outer cover from being re-secured over the tip cap.
