Abstract

The invention pertains to the composition for use as a medical or therapeutic substance for improving cognitive performance and methods for preparation thereof. The composition comprises a rare ginsenoside, a ginsan and a gintonin. Methods include growing ain a hydroponic environment, harvesting its root, and cooking the harvested root after drying and/or grinding the harvested root. Preferably, the ratio of ginsan to gintonin ranges from about 1:100 to about 500:1. Preferably, the ratio of rare ginsenosides to ginsan and gintonin is from about 1:40 to about 250:1.
