Abstract
Technologies for scheduling carrier aggregation (CA) for a user equipment (UE) of a cellular network are described. One method of operating a scheduler of a radio access network includes determining a payload size of user data to be exchanged with the UE over a channel. The method further includes analyzing a plurality of parameters associated with a quality-of-service (QOS) requirement of the UE, a quality of the channel, and a plurality of component carriers available at a plurality of bandwidths. The method further includes determining whether and when to activate carrier aggregation (CA) for the UE using at least one additional component carrier of the plurality of component carriers based on the payload size and values of the plurality of parameters.
