Abstract
To improve workability in a mounting work of a linear encoder, while enhancing detection accuracy of the linear encoder. A base () is provided with a linear scale () extending in a first direction (D), and a table () is provided with a reading head () which is provided to face the linear scale () and which reads scale marks of the linear scale (). A scale mounting surface () via which the linear scale () is mounted to the base () lies in a same plane as a first rail mounting surface () via which a guide rail (L) is mounted to the base (). The linear scale () has a lateral end surface () which is in contact with a lateral surface () of the guide rail (L).
