Abstract

A liquid crystal polyester fiber having good mechanical properties and excellent heat aging resistance is obtained by a heat treatment at a low temperature for a short time. The liquid crystal polyester fiber includes one or more metallic elements from Group 8 to Group 11 elements in the Periodic Table. The total content of the metallic element(s) in the liquid crystal polyester fiber can range from 1 to 1000 ppm by weight. The liquid crystal polyester fiber may contain the metallic element(s) as one or more metallic compounds, each having a melting point of (Mp+30)°C or lower, where Mpdenotes the melting point of the liquid crystal polyester constituting the fiber.
