Abstract

A method for generating operable driving areas for an autonomous driving vehicle based on a path trajectory of the autonomous driving vehicle is provided. A space time (ST) graph may be formed indicating a distance of travel along the path trajectory with respect to time of the autonomous driving vehicle and path trajectories of devices intersecting the path trajectory of the autonomous driving vehicle. The ST graph may be segmented into cells, wherein viable cells represent discretized viable unoccupied spaces and each cell defined at each time segment by minimum sand maximum sbounds in distance. Passage ways may be found based on the viable cells, each passageway having. a lower bound and an upper bound A desired passage way may be selected using quadratic programming (QP) optimization when multiple passage ways are found.
