Abstract
A machine tool includes a spindle for detachably attaching a tool thereto, a tool stocker storing the tool, a tool conveyance mechanism having a tool holding unit for detachably holding the tool and moving the tool holding unit along a path, and a conveyance control unit controlling driving of the tool conveyance mechanism. The tool conveyance mechanism is configured to move the tool holding unit to a tool change position, a stocker position, and a position for work. The tool change position allows the tool to be transferred between the spindle and the tool holding unit, the stocker position allows the tool to be transferred between the tool stocker and the tool holding unit, and the position for work allows a worker to access the tool holding unit and perform attachment/removal of the tool from a working area set outside the machine tool.
