Abstract
A distributed unit (DU) of a distributed base station, where the distributed base station that includes the DU and a central unit (CU), can perform a method for managing early data transmission (EDT) with a user equipment (UE). The method includes: performing (), while a radio connection between the UE and the DU is not active, a random access procedure, including receiving, from the UE, an uplink message formatted in accordance with a protocol for controlling radio resources; sending (), to the CU, a DU-to-CU message including the uplink message; receiving (), from the CU, a CU-to-DU message when a validity of the uplink message has been verified; generating () a contention resolution ID for the UE; and transmitting (), to the UE, the contention resolution ID for EDT without transitioning the UE to a connected state.
