Abstract
A solid-state gate driver (SSGD) circuit for energizing an electrical load includes a bilateral transistor switch connected to the load, positive and negative branch circuits each connected to the bilateral transistor switch, and a microcontroller. The positive branch circuit includes a first plurality of semiconductor power switches directing energy from a positive half-cycle of an alternating current (AC) input voltage to the load via the bilateral transistor switch. The negative branch circuit includes a second plurality of semiconductor power switches directing energy from a negative half-cycle of the A C input voltage to the load via the bilateral transistor switch. In response to input signals, the microcontroller controls an ON/OFF switching state of the semiconductor power switches and bilateral transistor switch to energize the load. The input voltage may be a direct current DC voltage. The SSGD circuit may form a solid-state circuit breaker or relay.
