Abstract
The present invention provides an oral transmucosal film for delivering four active ingredients of melatonin, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), vitamin B5, and vitamin B6 through the sublingual mucosa. The film is a tri-layer structure containing amorphous active ingredients, one or more solubilizers, one or more antioxidants, one or more form stabilizers, and one or more hydrophobic stabilizers to deliver the drug through a transmucosal route. Comparing with an oral tablet, the present oral transmucosal film provides better treatment for insomnia. The oral sublingual film is a tri-layer film; the upper layer comprises melatonin, the middle layer comprises GABA and vitamin B6, and the lower layer comprises vitamin B5. The combination of the four active ingredients in a tri-layer oral transmucosal film provides a better treatment for insomnia than other existing methods.
