The present invention relates to an image sensor () for efficient optical sensing. The sensor () comprises a plurality of pixel sensors (), each pixel sensor () comprising a photo detector (), each pixel being adapted to output a digital signal. The sensor () further comprises processing means, for example a neural network (), comprising a plurality of neurons (). Each photo detector () is in the vicinity of said processing means. Furthermore, each photo detector () is connected to the processing means.
