Abstract

A magnetic recording medium is a tape-shaped magnetic recording medium and includes: a base; and a magnetic layer. The magnetic layer contains a conductive particle. An average thickness of the magnetic recording medium is 5.3 μm or less. An average number of conductive particles per 400 μmof a surface of the magnetic layer is 50 or more, an average conductive particle area of the surface of the magnetic layer is 35000 nmor less, and an average conductive particle area ratio on the surface of the magnetic layer is less than 2.00%.
