Abstract
A method for controlling propulsion of a marine vessel includes designating at least one locked axis out of a surge axis, a sway axis, and a yaw axis and defining a movement track for movement of the marine vessel along at least one unlocked axis, wherein the movement track is defined such that the marine vessel's position with respect to the at least one locked axis remains unchanged. At least one propulsion device is controlled to move the marine vessel on the movement track based on a thrust command while automatically maintaining position with respect to the least one locked axis.
