Abstract
A bone cap () for preventing leakage of medullary canal components in a residual limb () that can lead to pathologies such as heterotopic ossification reducing heterotopic ossification and a method for using the same are provided. The bone cap () includes a proximal base () and an insertion extension portion () extending from the proximal base (). The insertion extension portion () has an outer surface and a distal end () opposite the proximal base (). The insertion extension portion () is configured to be inserted into a resected portion of a bone () of a patient. The bone cap () also has at least one bone engaging feature () disposed on the outer surface of the insertion extension portion () adjacent to the distal end () of the insertion extension portion (). A porous coating () is disposed on the outer surface of the insertion extension portion () adjacent to the proximal base ().
