Abstract
In a method of video decoding, a current picture is acquired from a coded video bitstream. A reference block included in a reference picture is identified for a current block included in the current picture. The reference picture is different from the current picture. The current block is divided into a plurality of current sub-blocks (CBSBs) that are coded in an inter mode. The reference block has a plurality of reference sub-blocks (RBSBs), each CBSB corresponding to at least one RBSB. Based on temporal motion vector (MV) prediction being enabled and a location of one of the plurality of RBSBs, a first MV of a respective CBSB of the plurality of CBSBs corresponding to the one of the plurality of RBSBs is set to zero. The one of the plurality of CBSBs is decoded by performing sub-block based temporal MV prediction based on the first MV.
