Abstract

An improved connector for an electrical cable and method therefor uses cartridge style mating and mounting hardware for mating connectors to one another and for mounting the connectors to a printed circuit board (PCB). In some embodiments, the mating and mounting hardware includes connector shells and mating and mounting assemblies that are fully interchangeable and replaceable. In some embodiments, the mating and mounting assemblies have tapered seating faces that facilitate positioning and aligning the assemblies to their respective shells. The availability of interchangeable mating and mounting hardware means fewer types of components are required to be stocked and tracked in inventory, thereby reducing inventory maintenance costs. In addition, the use of interchangeable mating and mounting hardware greatly simplifies manufacturing and assembly, thereby further reducing costs.
