Abstract

An in-wall power adapter for controlling an application of power to a load is described. The in-wall power adapter may comprise a first plurality of contact elements adapted to be coupled to wires of a junction box, the first plurality of contact elements comprising at least a first contact element adapted to receive a voltage signal and a second contact element adapted to provide the voltage signal to a load; a second plurality of contact elements comprising at least a third contact element coupled to the first contact element and a fourth contact element coupled to the second contact element, wherein one or more contact elements of the second plurality of contact elements are adapted to be coupled to one or more contact elements of a control attachment; a switch comprising a first terminal and a second terminal, wherein the first terminal is coupled to the first contact element; an actuator element adapted to control the switch, wherein the actuator element is accessible by a user of the in-wall power adapter; and a switch element coupled between the second terminal of the switch and the second contact element; wherein the in-wall power adapter is adapted to be coupled to a control attachment, and the switch is adapted to control an application of power to a load when a control attachment is attached to the in-wall power adapter.
