Abstract
An apparatus for obtaining respectiveH nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements of restricted diffusion in a geological formation in two orthogonal directions comprises a magnet assembly configured to produce a magnetic field in an x-y-z space in a subterranean region of the geological formation and an antenna assembly to produce an excitation in the x-y-z space perpendicular to the magnetic field and to acquire a response based on the excitation. The apparatus is configured to apply, at a first time, a magnetic field gradient Galong a z-axis to obtain measurements of restricted diffusion in a direction perpendicular to a bedding plane, and to apply, at a second time, a magnetic field gradient Galong an x-axis to obtain measurements of restricted diffusion in a direction parallel to the bedding plane.
