Abstract
A liquid discharge apparatus includes a holding unit to hold a discharge head, a cap to cap a discharge surface of the discharge head, a positioning unit to position the discharge head at a cap position, and a separation member to separate the cap from the discharge surface positioned at the cap position when the separation member is in a first posture and to bring the cap into contact with the discharge surface positioned at the cap position when the separation member is in a second posture. The separation member changes posture between the first and second postures as the holding unit is displaced relative to the discharge head when the discharge head is positioned at the cap position by the positioning unit. The discharge head is held by the holding unit such that the holding unit relatively displaces with respect to the discharge head.
