A midsole () for a running shoe extending in a longitudinal direction (L), a vertical direction (V) and a transverse direction (T), includes a plurality of separate viscoelastic block elements () being along the longitudinal direction (L) of the midsole () arranged one after the other, wherein the viscoelastic block elements () are separated from each other by a plurality of slits. The viscoelastic block elements () and the slits are configured such that the base layer () and the top layer () of the midsole () are along the longitudinal direction (L) of the midsole () sheared against each other upon exposure to forces occurring during running, which act against the longitudinal direction (L) of the midsole ().
