Abstract

A rotating cutting instrument () is provided that includes a proximal electrically-conductive shank (), configured to receive torque. An electrically-conductive outer electrode () includes an electrically-conductive distal end portion () that is shaped so as to penetrate tissue when rotated, and is in electrical contact with the proximal electrically-conductive shank (). An electrically-conductive inner electrode () has a proximal end portion (). An electrical isolation layer () is disposed between the electrically-conductive outer electrode () and the electrically-conductive inner electrode (), so as to electrically isolate the electrically-conductive outer electrode () and the electrically-conductive inner electrode () from each other. Other embodiments are also described.
