Abstract
An image forming apparatus includes a fixing unit including a heater and a temperature detecting element, a switching element, an interrupting element put in a connection state between the heater and an AC power source or an interruption state between the heater and the AC power source, and a controller for controlling the switching element and the interrupting element on the basis of temperature information detected by the temperature detecting element. In a case where the heater is raised in temperature when the interrupting element is in the connection state and a heater driving signal to the switching element is turned off, the controller switches the interrupting element from the connection state to the interruption state while keeping the heater driving signal off and switches the interrupting element from the interruption state to the connection state after a lapse of a predetermined time while keeping the heater driving signal off.
