Abstract

The invention relates to a method for checking the fitness of a driver to drive a motor vehicle () and to a motor vehicle () for carrying out a method of this kind. The method comprises the following steps: identifying (S) a transition signal () from a highly automated driving mode to a less automated driving mode; receiving (S) a request signal () and outputting (S) a request () characterized by the transmitted request signal () in the motor vehicle (); capturing (S) a response signal () which comprises a response () of the driver to the request (); determining (S) a fitness-to-drive value () which quantifies the driver's fitness to drive by evaluating the response signal () while applying a specified evaluation criterion (), wherein it is checked whether the response signal () describes an expected response () associated with the request signal (); checking (S) whether the fitness-to-drive value () determined is greater than a specified fitness-to-drive limit value (); and, if this is the case, permitting (S) a manual intervention by the driver in the longitudinal and/or lateral control of the motor vehicle ().
