Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a rotary electrical machine having improved cooling performance. A rotary electrical machine according to the present invention comprises: a stator; a rotor; and a cooling passage through which a refrigerant for cooling the statorand the rotorflows. The cooling passage is provided with: a refrigerant inletthrough which the refrigerant is introduced; stator cooling passagesin communication with the refrigerant inlet; a rotor cooling passage; and a connection passagewhich connects the stator cooling passageswith the rotor cooling passage. The rotor cooling passageis provided with refrigerant outletsthrough which the refrigerant is discharged radially outside the rotorin association with rotational motion of the rotor. A plurality of the stator cooling passagesare arranged in the circumferential direction of a stator core. The terminal end of each of the stator cooling passagesis connected to the upstream side of the connection passageat a position opposite to the refrigerant inletin the axial direction and in the circumferential direction.
