Abstract
A lubricant base oil having a natural origin content (ISO 16128) of 100%, may contain a monoester compound having one or more branched structures and 18 or more carbon atoms. The monoester compound may a compound of formula (1): wherein Rand Rare each independently a hydrocarbon group, at least one of Rand Ris a branched hydrocarbon group, and a total number of carbon atoms of Rand Ris 17 or more. In the compound of formula (1), Rmay be an alkyl group or alkenyl group having 8 or more carbon atoms, Rmay be an alkyl group or alkenyl group having 5 or more carbon atoms, and at least one of Rand Rmay be a branched alkyl group or a branched alkenyl group
