Abstract
An image forming apparatus includes a moving device to move a cartridge between an attached position and a retracted position, and a controller to cause a driving device to perform a first operation when the cartridge has not reached the attached position even after elapse of a predetermined time since the driving device is caused to start a second operation in a state in which the cartridge is positioned at the retracted position. A detection portion outputs a signal that differs when the cartridge is at the attached position and when the cartridge is at the retracted position, and the controller causes the driving device to perform the first operation when the signal of the detection portion has not changed before the elapse of the predetermined time since the driving device is caused to start the second operation in the state in which the cartridge is positioned at the retracted position.
