Abstract
A sealing assembly and a method of moving the sealing assembly between a radially retracted state and a radially expanded state. A sealing assembly is positioned in a wellbore. The sealing assembly includes a first collar sleeve, a second collar sleeve, a sealing element disposed between the first and second collar sleeves and one or more backing plates disposed behind the sealing element. Sliding the first and second collar sleeves closer together sets the sealing element by forcing the sealing element outward and by extending the one or more backing plates to contact an inside surface of the sealing element. Sliding the first and second collar sleeves apart unsets the sealing element, retracting the one or more backing plates and allowing the sealing element to relax into an approximately original position.
