Abstract
To determine the presence ofin an environment, a sample from the environment can be plated onto a growth medium that is selective for. Prior to plating, the sample may be treated with a compound containing sodium dodecyl sulfate containing glycine hydrochloride. Plating may occur immediately after the addition of the compound or after a standing period. The agar based growth medium can include a high concentration of crystal violet, in excess of 0.5 μg/ml.colonies will generally appear white while other colonies will generally appear stained purple or another color.
