The push button switchfurther comprises a light-emitting elementfor emitting light, and a light-receiving elementfor detecting light. The light-receiving elementis disposed so as to detect the light emitted from the light-emitting elementand reflected by an object within a prescribed region. The push button switchoutputs an ON signal if the push buttonhas been pushed in, thereby causing the movable contactto come into contact with the fixed contact, or if it is determined that the light-receiving elementhas detected light reflected by an object.
