Abstract
Various embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to packing rings. In one example embodiment, a packing ring includes a first axial ring end, a second axial ring end, at least three ring segments, and at least one wear opening, The at least one wear opening on at least one of the the at least three ring segments, and extends from a radially outside outer circumferential surface and/or the second axial ring end of the ring segment in the direction of a radially inside inner circumferential surface of the ring segment. A radially inside wear opening end of the at least one wear opening faces toward the inner circumferential surface and is spaced apart in the radial direction of the ring segment from the radially insider inner circumferential surface of the ring segment at a distance which is at most 40% of a radial ring height.
