Abstract

A pyrotechnic current breaker () for severing a conductor () by means of a severing piston () has a housing, which comprises a housing upper part () and a housing lower part (). The conductor () extends through the housing between the housing upper part () and the housing lower part (), and the severing piston () is guided in a cavity () in the housing. The current breaker () also has an ignition unit () for driving the severing piston (). A quenching means () is provided for suppressing or quenching the arc produced during the severing. According to the invention, the quenching means () is situated in a recess () on the periphery of the severing piston (). A seal between the severing piston and the housing, more particularly an o-ring (-) positioned in an additional recess () in the severing piston (), is preferably provided adjacent to the recess ().
