Abstract

A method for producing a radionuclide comprises irradiating a target material with a linear accelerator to produce a radionuclide, dissolving the irradiated target material comprising the radionuclide, and separating the radionuclide from the irradiated target material. The irradiated target material may be dissolved in an acidic solution comprising one or more mineral acids. The target material may include a tungsten target material, such as a natural tungsten target material comprising one or more ofW,W,W,W, andW or a tungsten target material exhibiting an elemental purity of about 99.95%. Additional methods for producing tantalum radioactive isotopes are disclosed.
