Abstract
Gaming systems and methods that independently randomly determine and display one or more symbol pattern sets associated with symbol display positions for multiple plays of a game. The gaming system displays each determined symbol pattern set adjacent to the symbol display positions. At various points during the multiple plays of the game, the gaming system removes one or more of the symbols of each of the symbol pattern sets based on and corresponding to one or more of the symbols displayed on symbol display elements at the symbol display positions. Responsive to all of the symbols of one of the symbol pattern sets being removed, the gaming system displays an indication of an award associated with that symbol pattern set.
