Abstract

A system () for testing a laser proximity fuse (PF) () by simulating a closing velocity to a target along a line of sight () includes a static spiral surface () and a support arrangement () for supporting the proximity fuse () with the line of sight () directed towards an inside of static spiral surface (). A folding mirror () is driven by a drive motor () so as to deflect the line of sight () towards progressively closer regions of static spiral surface, thereby simulating a closing velocity. The system can be miniaturized by employing converging optics (). An alternative embodiment employs a shaped rotor () to achieve a similar effect.
