Abstract
A vehicle selects a parking position or a neutral position when a state in which a P range button () or an N range button () is operated overlaps a state in which a D range button () or an R range button () is operated. Thereafter, the vehicle maintains the parking position or neutral position when the operation of P range button () or N range button () is released to switch to a state in which D range button () or R range button () is operated. This allows the vehicle to suppress a false start and inhibit the selection of a shift position that is different from the intention of the driver.
